Naomi Folkard Wins Gold at Welsh Champs

Two Warwickshire recurve archers took the honours at the Welsh and Open Field Archery Championships held at Pentref, South Wales last week.  Naomi Folkard (Leamington) and Jon Shales (‘V’), both bronze medallists in the World Field Championships at the end of August, convincingly won their respective classes.

The competition was held over two days in the mountains overlooking the Rhondda valley. There were 24 targets each day, over difficult hilly terrain. On Day 1 distances were unmarked, and on day 2 they were marked. Heavy rain on the second added to the difficulty of the course.

Folkard scored 362 for the unmarked and 356 for the marked to give a combined total of 718. This put her well ahead of Caroline Baldry, second with 601 and Penny Cox, third with 504.
